When new housemaster Mr Harold Quinton Jones arrived to take up his post as housemaster at historic Osbourne Lodge College he decided to keep a diary.
'Grey Shorts' charts the life and times of Osbourne's student body and how stern disciplinary measures are taken by the masters to preserve the well maintained traditions that go to make up boarding school life.
The atmosphere is tense as one by one all the lads at Osbourne fall foul of the rules and end up facing punishment in the traditional way. The headmaster Mr Prentice Hackett is a firm believer in strict discipline, leaving the lads in no uncertain terms that they have been dealt with. The crack of the cane and swish of the birch echo through the corridors of Osbourne. Young Howard Stadden too, as Head Boy at Osbourne, knows how to swing the strap and slipper to maximum effect. The lads in his house are always aware as to what will happen if they step over the line.
